Heel-band shape and dimensions matter to the intended boot. Use men’s or ladies’ labels alongside the actual measurements, not in place of them.

- Show its curve and depth with a matching model image or drawing.
- Sample fit
- Review the selected pair against the intended boot before confirming the version.
One model, one defined pattern
Describe the Shank Precisely
Length, direction and end shape distinguish models. Specify all three instead of using a neck length alone to describe the whole spur.
Use the selected model’s dimensions for ordering; a specification from another pattern is not interchangeable.

For rowel-equipped patterns
Identify the Rowel Details
Record the rowel’s diameter, shape and mounting arrangement when it is part of the design. Keep that information with the shank reference so the complete configuration stays clear.
Similar-looking Western spurs can have different rowels. For a plain or rounded-end pattern, specify that end form instead of adding a rowel requirement.
